We start with a quick walkthrough to plan fixture placement and spacing, since pot light spacing depends on ceiling height and what the room is used for, not a fixed formula. For retrofits, we confirm whether the existing housings can take a direct LED disc swap (most can) or whether the job needs new housings.

On install day: existing fixtures come out, new LED pot lights go in, and where the housings allow it, this is a same-day job with no patching needed. New installs (no existing housing) involve cutting in the housings first, which adds time and may need a permit depending on scope. We test every fixture and dimmer before we leave.

Can you retrofit my old pot lights to LED without cutting new holes?

In most cases yes. Modern LED retrofit discs are designed to drop into standard existing housings, so there is no patching or repainting needed. We confirm this during the walkthrough since a small number of older or non-standard housings need a different approach.

How many pot lights do I need for a room?

It depends on ceiling height, room size, and what the room is used for, a kitchen or workspace needs more even coverage than a living room going for ambient light. We plan spacing on site rather than using a fixed rule, so the layout actually suits the room.

Can pot lights go on a dimmer?

Yes, as long as the fixture and driver are dimmer-compatible, which most current LED pot lights are. We will confirm compatibility and pair it with the right dimmer so you don't get flicker or buzzing.

Do I need a permit for pot light installation?

A like-for-like retrofit into existing housings is typically minor work. Adding new recessed lighting where none existed before, or any new wiring, usually needs a permit and inspection. As a licensed contractor we handle that when the job calls for it.

How long does pot light installation take?

A straightforward retrofit of 6 to 10 fixtures is usually a single day. New installations take longer, since housings have to be cut in and wired before the fixtures go in, and timing depends on ceiling access.
